Natural Stone Quoins for Corners, Edges & Architectural Detail

PG Stone supplies natural Yorkshire stone quoins for use in new build construction, extensions, and period restoration projects across the UK.

Quoins are the dressed stone blocks used to define and strengthen the corners of a building, providing both a structural function and a distinctive architectural finish. In Yorkshire and much of the North of England, stone quoins are a traditional and widely-specified feature — particularly on developments where planning authorities require the use of natural stone.

We supply both reclaimed stone quoins, offering genuine aged character, and new dressed Yorkshire stone quoins with consistent sizing for efficient installation. Stock is available in a range of heights and projections to suit different wall thicknesses and coursing requirements.

Quoins date back to Roman times so they have been around for quite a while but the word quoin is derived from the French word “corner”. Quoins are masonry blocks that are found on the external corners of stone or brick buildings. In the past, due too building methods quoins were used to provide structural strength for a wall that was built with inferior stone or rubble nowadays, however, with modern building methods they are used more for aesthetic purposes to add detail and accentuate the corners of a building. Used in this way the quoins almost frame a building especially if they are used in conjunction with brickwork as the colour and size of the stone normally provide a feature that contrasts with the brickwork and ensures it stands out.

Quoins are usually large square or rectangular blocks of stone which we can cut to any size to meet the requirements of the project for which you are procuring them.
