Heads & Cills

Heads and cills (sometimes spelled sill), are masonry stones used around a window or door to create a good solid opening. The cill goes to the base, the head is at the top, then there are jambs which are optional at the sides of windows and doors, and in addition, there are mullions that break up a window or door opening either vertically or horizontally (once again these are optional).

At PG Stone (Yorkshire) Ltd we offer a wide range of new heads, cills, jambs, and mullions which are cut to order in natural stone and are perfect for creating made-to-measure window and door apertures in character properties.

The overall look of a building is influenced by the styling of the heads, cills, jambs, and mullions, at PG Stone (Yorkshire) Ltd we can cut the above products to any size required and our masons can add details such as stools, chamfers, moldings or other carved decorations. In addition to the detailing, we can create different textures and shades through sandblasting and dyeing which can dramatically alter a property so that it stands out or blends in with the environment it’s built in.

See examples of our heads, cills, jambs, and mullions below.
